Collect YOUR Motifs! Doodle Thursday

Doodle Cards, Lori Kennedy, Free Motion Quilting

Good Morning, Quilters, Doodlers, and Zentanglers!

Have you ever sat down at your sewing machine and been at a loss for what motif to quilt?

In my new Craftsy class, Machine Quilting Techniques:  From Doodle to Design, I recommend that you follow along with pen in hand to practice the motifs while I draw them and again when I stitch them.  Once you are confident with doodling the motif, use a white gel pen to doodle the motif onto colored card stock (available at most craft stores).

By placing notecards in a ring, you can shuffle through them, and choose a few at a time to get started with the design process.

Add more cards as you master more motifs.

And of course….YOU know where to find lots of motifs!

Please post photos of YOUR notecards on Facebook (and tag The Inbox Jaunt), on Instagram #quiltwithlori    #EasyFMQ  @theinboxjaunt and on the Craftsy platform—your fellow students would LOOOOVE to see them—and so would I!

Happy Quoodling!

Lori

Better Quilt-a-Longs Through Doodling

Scallop Doodles, Lori Kennedy

Good Morning, Quilters!

I’ve really been enjoying all the comments from yesterday’s #RealSewingRoom post.    I guess I’m not alone–and as we all know-misery loves company!  (I think it may be a group case of co-enabling?!?)

Thanks for posting your photos on Instagram…if you want to see what is already posted, you must sign up for an Instagram account and then search:  realsewingroom or realsewingrooms….

While you’re there…check out the very funny #womenIRL (women in real life)…it never fails to amuse.

BETTER QUILTING THROUGH DOODLING

Next week in our Nautical Quilt-a-Long  we will be adding rows of scallops…(By the way, if you haven’t started–it’s not too late!)

Let’s get a head start by doodling our options.

The scallops will be in the one inch rows-so use that as your guide.

See how many variations of scallops you can doodle.

Once you have basic scallops, try adding embellishments in between.

In just a few minutes, you will have several new border motifs!

One Last Sample…

Machine Quilting, Flowers, Lori KennedyGood Morning, Quilters!

It’s a busy week…

I’m off to Denver tomorrow to  film a second Craftsy video!

This project has been “percolating” in my head since filming my first video in June. (Divide and Conquer:  Creative Quilting)   I submitted a proposal in October and got the “green light” in November.  Since then I’ve been working with the Craftsy editors to tweak the concept of the class, stitch the samples, and write the script.

I’m so excited to be able to share the video version of The Inbox Jaunt–tips, techniques, doodling and so much more!

This sample of Faye’s Flowers was the last sample I stitched…a demo of “what to do” and “what not to do” when stitching….Can you see it in the sample?
