Design Decision or Just Plain ‘Ole Procrastination?

The Inbox Jaunt, Lori Kennedy, Machine QuiltingGood Morning, Quilters!

I’m working on a new banner for my sewing room!

First, I stabilized around the center squares.  Next, I stitched in the ditch around all of the letters.

The wide, solid colored border just begged for a little “Divide and Conquer”!

I decided to add a fancy “frame” around the center rectangle to soften the edges.

Instead of just stitching the “frame”, I used the String of Pearls motif to add a little more interest to the line. The Inbox Jaunt, Lori Kennedy, Machine Quilting

I added a cluster of flowers at each corner…

Fill in with more flowers…

Switch to a different design…

Leave the inner frame area “open”?

Lori Kennedy, machine quilting, flowersFor now I will just give it a rest…

But sometimes you just have to make a decision and go for it because…

I know myself.

In the guise of “considering my design choices”, I can procrastinate my way into another UFO!!!

I know…I will set a deadline.

I will finish this by Friday and YOU will hold me accountable!

What about YOU?

What do YOU do when a project stalls?

How do YOU jump-start a project?

We’d LOVE to hear!

Signed,

Lollygagging  Lori

The Open Leaf with Spiral-Machine Quilting Tutorial

Good Morning, Quilters!

Today we are going to review one of the earliest motifs offered here at The Inbox Jaunt–it is a “fan favorite”–The Open leaf with Spiral.

Last week we looked at Four Secrets to Better Spirals HERE

This week we use that Spiral in a leaf motif–gorgeous!

Open Leaf with S;iral, Lori Kennedy, Machine Quilting

Begin by drawing three parallel lines.  Begin stitching on the center line.

Stitch along the center line a few stitches, then sweep to the right drawn line.  Stitch along the right drawn line for several stitches.

Taper down slightly, brush the middle drawn line and curl in.  Stop with your needle in the down position.Open Leaf with S;iral, Lori Kennedy, Machine QuiltingEcho stitch the spiral and stop on the center line.  Sweep to the left side line.

Stitch down toward the center line and curl into the center.  Echo stitch the curl back to the center line.

Alternate right and left leaves to complete the design.Be sure to use careful stitching technique to keep the spacing between the leaves even.

Lovely!

What’s growing in your garden?  Any pretty vines?

We’d LOVE to hear!

Lori

Tulip: The Movie!

Tulips, Free Motion Quilting, TutorialGood Morning, Quilters!

I’m a movie star!  Well…at least my hands are…

Tulip Time is appearing at The BERNINA USA Facebook Theater!

Read the movie synopsis on page 104 of Free Motion Machine Quilting 1-2-3 HERE

The plot was first revealed here at The Inbox Jaunt (with step-by-step photos).

Tulips, Free Motion Quilting, TutorialTulip Time is one of my favorite motifs.  This easy motif is a very versatile actor and can serve as a border, a double border or fill a square block by stitching the flowers along the diagonal axes of the block.  (see page 105).

So pop yourself a little popcorn and watch this quick movie short before heading off to YOUR sewing room!

I’m off to makeup, dahlings,

Affectionately,

Lori L’AmourDorothy Lamour
