Doodle Challenge

Doodle Lessons, Lori Kennedy

Good Morning, Quilters and Doodlers!

Have YOU been doodling? See Doodle Exercises HERE.

Do YOU have a doodle notebook?

Do YOU collect your favorite doodles?

My Doodle notebooks are my greatest source of inspiration.  Most of my doodles aren’t very nice, but every so often…a real gem emerges.  Sometimes I don’t recognize the potential of a doodle until I review my notebook months later.

DOODLE CHALLENGE

Today I have a little challenge for you.

Look through all of your doodles.

Choose one or two of YOUR doodles and design a nine inch quilt block.

Keep it simple.

Start stitching!

Use thread to enhance your design.

Remember:  Contrasting thread will show off a design,

Matching thread will appear as texture.

Can’t wait to see what YOU create!

Vintage Quilts

Vintage quilt, Henry

Good Morning, Quilters!

Happy Wednesday–I had too much fun over the Fourth of July weekend!  While I DID get my 10,000 steps (or more) every day—I did not do my blogging homework.  It’s been a long time since I missed a Tuesday Tutorial!

VINTAGE QUILTS

Today–a look at a very old quilt.

When I was learning to machine quilt, I volunteered to quilt group quilts for a precursor to “Quilts of Valor” and I even bought vintage quilt tops on Ebay.  (Search “vintage quilt tops”).  I purchased several at very good prices – and one at a not so good price–I got caught up in the “auction fever”.  I’ll pull that quilt top out to show you–it needs work before it can be quilted.

Not sure how old this quilt is, but it is a great quilt to pull out for the Fourth of July!

Hope your holiday weekend was filled with great weather, family and fun!

If anyone has information/links to Quilts of Valor –I’d love to learn more about that program.

Happy Stitching!

Happy Independence Day!

Red, White Blue Quilt, Lori Kennedy

Happy Birthday, America!

I hope all of YOU are spending a joyful summer day with family and friends!

Red, White Blue Quilt, Lori Kennedy

The Red, White and Blue quilt (directions HERE)  is finished–binding too!

The blocks are machine quilted in a variation of The Basic Block–we’ll learn the variation this week….

I added machine quilted, Shining Stars in the corner–(machine quilting for Shining Stars motif tutorial HERE)

This was stitched on my BERNINA 770 QE–a fabulous machine with extra harp space and great tension control for a perfect stitch every time.  (The BERNINA 770 QE is a domestic sewing machine.)

This is going to be a present for someone special….details coming soon…so I used wool batting for a little more loft.

Now all I need is a glass of lemonade and a little Ray Charles, singing America the Beautiful!--It wouldn’t be Fourth of July without it!

(We had a neighbor –years ago–a Marine whose license plate read, “IWO JIMA”  who would blast America the Beautiful on the Fourth of July…)

God Bless Ed Melicher!

God Bless America!

and God Bless all who serve and their families!

Hope YOUR day is filled with all the BEST of America!
