Today I have The Perfect Present for YOU! Leave all the shopping, cooking, cleaning, and paperwork behind for a few minutes and doodle! If you have a sandwich, gnosh on that now—0r better yet, stitch your (quilt) sandwich…
If you are lucky enough to have a long arm, this pattern is for you! If you’re like me, stitching on a fabulous sewing machine (I stitch on a Bernina 820) then this motif is for YOU, too! This sample was stitched with Aurifil 50 wt thread in the bobbin and Sulky 40 wt in the top, using a Schmetz 80 Topstitch needle.
Begin by drawing three lines, equidistant apart. In the sample below, the lines are 1/2 inch apart.
Begin stitching on the bottom line. Stitch straight up to the middle rail and then stitch on the middle rail several stitches. This is the middle of your present.
Next, stitch a curved line over the side of your package and back to the center…this creates the ribbon tie.
Stitch a double loop–to begin your bow.
Stitch two more double loops to complete the bow…they can all be the same size, or the middle one can be a bit bigger.
Next, stitch the right ribbon tie. Curl the ribbon up and echo back to the center of the bow.
Carefully stitch the right side of the package, stopping in the center of the bottom of the box. Avoid crossing the right ribbon. Also, keep the right side of the package symmetrical with the left side of the package.
To create the ties on the side of the box, stitch up from the center bottom-creating a “plus” sign.
When the “plus” sign is complete, stitch on the bottom rail back to the start of your package to seal the box.
Stitch under the entire package and begin another Perfect Present…
In less than a twinkle, you’ll have all of your gifts wrapped and ready for delivery!
