Christmas Graffiti Quilting

Christmas, Free Motion Quilting, LKennedyGood Morning, Quilters!

Today’s quilt (20 x 20″) began last December as a practice piece to try out new motifs–do you recognize any?  Some never made it to the Tuesday Tutorial lineup…

As I was cleaning my sewing room, I thought this would make a great “stream of consciousness” quilt like the blue one I made HERE.

Several readers said it reminded them of Karlee Porter’s Graffiti quilts.

Graffiti Quilting has a much better ring to it than stream of consciousness quilting, so I think I will adopt this term as well–

unless YOU can come up with our own term???

We could call it “Where’s Waldo? Quilting”...

Can you find:

Mistletoe

Holly

Evergreens

Visions of Sugarplums…

Sugarplums, Free Motion Quilting, LKennedy

Good Morning, Quilters!

Does anyone know what a sugarplum is?

Would you be surprised that it often contains caraway or cardamom--and that one historian described making them as “one of the most difficult and tedious methods in craft confectionary…”??  Read more HERE–a very enjoyable article!

This little quilt was really a pleasure to create with Candy Stripes,  Twisted Ropes and Spirals.

Binding it…slightly tedious, though I love hand sewing…Machine stitched on the front and hand stitched on the back–(I still haven’t found any better way!)

” Even today, when the original referent for sugar plum has faded into the historical mists, we still recognize its meaning: the excitement, the pleasure, the childlike wonder of Christmas, all in the shape of a little sugar plum.”

–Samiri Kawash

May YOUR week be filled with the childlike wonder of Christmas!

Ho! Ho! The Mistletoe

Mistletoe.FMQ.LKennedy

Good Morning, Quilters!

I’m finishing up a few more Christmas quilts –this one is made from last year’s tutorial:  Mistletoe and Berries.

As I was stitching, I was wondering why we kiss under the mistletoe…Read more HERE--it’s quite interesting!

Mistletoe.FMQ.LKennedyChristmas deserves a little bit of glitter, so I hand stitched rows of Sulky’s Holoshimmer.  Mistletoe.FMQ.LKennedyEven during the busiest days, I feel discombobulated unless I to find a little time to stitch.

What about YOU?  Do YOU make time to stitch (or doodle) every day?

We’d love to hear!

Kisses,

Lori
