Free Motion Quilting-Bikes, Trains, Trucks and Cars

Train, Machine Quilting, Lori Kennedy

Good Morning, Quilters!

Not long ago, I asked YOU what free motion quilting tutorials YOU would like in 2018 and I compiled a list.  (By the way, please add YOUR ideas to the comment section today.)

Your wish list included several motifs for trains, bikes, cars and trucks–for which I have already created tutorials.  (Which means I need a better way to search-exciting news on that coming soon!)

So here they are…motifs YOU requested.  Have fun free motion quilting The Circus Train–with The Coal Car and The Caboose, The Race Car, The Bicycle and Henry’s Truck!

  1. Hi Lori
I’d love to see more tutorials on designs that are built up from a multi pass format. You have taught the swirl plume design and I’ve really enjoyed using it. I’ve added a star shape to either side of the swirl in place of the plume and like that effect too. More of these types of complex designs would be great for me. Thank you and best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a great 2018.

  2. Hi Lori, I don’t comment much but I love all your posts, I’m still practicing and doing better finally! I was starting to think FMQ wasn’t for me but I’m seeing results. I have no particular request, just want to thank you for all you do and wish you a wonderful Holiday!!!
    Love your Craftsy class!

  3. Have you already done a tractor? I would like to use that motif on a quilt I am working on. I enjoy your blog and look forward to it .

  4. I have just started to follow you and you’ve given me some great ideas. I would love to do an elephant. Don’t know if you’ve done one before.
    Happy holidays

  5. Thanks for all the tutorials… I’m working on several winter based quilts…. any ideas would be appreciated

  6. Ooh lions and tigers and bears (oh my – sorry,it had to be done!) elephants – actually I think you could do anything with your quilting! All would be lovely to see. I love your sailboats and that little bicycle is cute.

  7. Did you know your art background would bring you to quilting? At least you clearly have art in your veins since you have created so many useable motifs for us, just want to say that they are all so wonderful and my challenge to myself is to try everyone of them on a quilt! Merry Christmas to you and your family!

  8. Love-Love-Love all of your designs! I want to try free motion quilting and still have
not had the nerve to dive in. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

  9. Thank you for the bicycle tutorial. I donate a quilt each year to an American Diabetes Tour De Cure raffle (in Cloquet, MN). I’ll be practicing some of these to include in my 2018 donation.

    Enjoy the Holidays,

    Chester, Maine

  10. Yaaaaaaaa… the train…can’t wait to do this on a quilt for my grandson he loves trains. Maybe an airplane, or even some dinosaurs.
Wow, these tutorials are wonderful. Thank you so much.
    Health and Happiness in “2018”
