X Marks the Spot-A Machine Quilting Tutorial

Lori Kennedy, Machine Quilting, Tutorial, X

Good Morning, Quilters!

In keeping with my new challenge to put an X in my exercise calendar every day, I offer today’s machine quilting tutorial--X Marks the Spot.

This is an easy grid motif.  Once the marking is complete, the stitching is a breeze!

THE X MARKS THE SPOT-MACHINE QUILTING TUTORIAL

Begin by drawing two parallel lines.  Add perpendicular lines to create squares.  (I use the white Fons and Porter Ceramic Pencil)

Closely echo stitch back to the center and out to the next corner.

NOTE-leave a gap in the center of the block where all the stitching lines converge.

Finish the final side of the X and then stitch along the left drawn line to begin the next motif.

Once the entire row of Xs are complete, stitch the right side line.

Combine small and large Xs to create really unique patterns.

Doodle first so you can cross that off your list…

And then get a little exercise…a walk today?  yoga?  swimming?  #movemore  #losethosefatquarters!

Hope there’s a little pep in your step and spring in your stitches today!

Lori

Daily Habits and the Big Red X

Henry loves Watermelon, Toddler

Happy Monday, Quilters!

I really love yesterday’s photo of my grandson, Henry–it’s such a classic baby expression to which we can all relate!

But Henry is such a happy child, I couldn’t leave you with that image of him…This is the Henry we all know and love!

LOSE THOSE FAT QUARTERS CHECK IN

Several weeks ago we started a fitness challenge for quilters–“Lose those fat quarters”.

I was really good for several weeks,  but have fallen off the bandwagon lately…too hot, too busy, too tired, too…too…too.

Pretty soon I’d excused my way back to bad exercise habits and the bad eating habits followed right along.

ARGHHH!!!!

EXERCISE AND QUILTING

My niece, Renee told me this is how she balances quilting and exercise…

“I start the day with exercise, because I know I will stop exercising within 60 minutes and then I can quilt, guilt-free.  If I start quilting, I won’t want to stop–even hours later–to exercise.”

Smart girl!

PUT AN X ON THE CALENDAR

Here’s an interesting article on how Jerry Seinfeld developed a daily writing habit.  I love the idea!

YOUR DAILY GOALS

What about YOU?  How is YOUR #MoveMore campaign coming?

Would a calendar help YOU?

Could you use a calendar to help you start a doodle habit as well?

Are YOU ready to get back to #LoseThoseFatQuarters?

I think a challenge and prizes are in order….what do YOU think?

We’d LOVE to hear!

I’m off!

Signed,
