The Square Daisy-A Machine Quilting Tutorial

Square Daisy, Machine Quilting, Lori Kennedy

Happy Morning, Quilters!

How does YOUR garden grow?  The daisies in my garden are just about to shine!

I LOVE daisies!

Today’s machine quilted daisy –perfect for any square block–is a variation of The Basic Block we learned last Tuesday– The Square Daisy is even easier to stitch!

Begin the motif in the corner, add a little spiral in the center (where many seams intersect) and add petals along the diagonal and straight divisions of the block–a perfect way to stabilize a block AND make it as pretty as a daisy!

If necessary, draw diagonal lines across the block.  If the block has seam lines, this may not be required.

Begin stitching in the upper left corner.  Stitch a convex line ending before the center of the block.  Add a Spiral in the center of the block  (A full circle would work as well.)

Add a pointed petal along the vertical axis of the block.

Continue working clockwise around the block, adding pointed petals:

Add another pointed petal along the diagonal axis and the horizontal axis.

Continue around the block…

Complete the half petal from the first step, then stitch all the way around the block…

Or stitch 3/4 around the first block to begin the next block.

(Finish stitch the left side of the blocks after all the blocks in a row are complete.)

  1. Oooh I really like that flower. Time to get doodling 😉Still in bed and missing my sewing machine and my pink ginormous sewing table and cuddling and smelling my fabric. OK if my cast doesn’t come off tomorrow I’m breaking it off myself.😜

  2. My SpouseMan got his leg hard cast off last week and is in a boot for a month now. However, he is allowed to remove it to get a shower – standing up! He was in there so long I had to look out the window to see whether the level of water in the lake was going down !! Hmmm, this daisy would be just right for the cornerstones of the quilt I am working on. Using piano keys for the sides’ borders. I can FMQ the cornerstones before sewing them to the keys. Yes! Thanks Again, Ms Lori !

  3. I just did a similar daisy with a circle in the center. Will definitely try the spiral center next time. Always start in the center so will also try starting at the edge. I get such great ideas from you. Thanks.

  4. I love how you explain how it can be used in an actual block. It’s given me an idea I needed. Thanks!

  5. My lilies are almost ready to pop! Lavender, butterfly bushes, roses and sedum are in full bloom…I love spring and summer 😀
I also love your fun daisy…your tutorials make it so easy to follow! Thank you.
