Doodle Lessons: Change One Thing

Doodle Lessons, Lori KennedyGood Morning, Quilters and Doodlers!

First, I’d like to thank all of you who have signed up for my new (and only) Craftsy video!  If you haven’t had a chance to sign up yet, the 50% off link in my sidebar will be available through Monday, August 17th!

I’m delighted that so many of you have watched many of the lessons already!  Please consider leaving a review on the Craftsy platform AND as soon as you can POST A PHOTO of your work…even if you are a beginner–we want to see YOUR progress!

Throughout the video, I doodle before I sew each motif.  For the purposes of video instruction,  I use a Wacom Cintiq Tablet throughout the class.  Back at the ranch, I always doodle on paper–loose leaf, notebooks, etc.

I like the “tooth” of markers on paper.

Today we are continuing our series, Better Quilting Through Doodling.

(Find all previous doodle lessons HERE.)

I have an EASY RECIPE for doodling today:

 Change One Thing!

Start with a simple shape like a house.  Then add or change one thing.Doodle.ChangeOne.LKennedy002Contineu adding and changing…
Doodle.ChangeOne.LKennedy003Keep it simple.  Soon you will have a design you really like!Doodle.ChangeOne.LKennedy004

Try trees.
Doodle.ChangeOne.LKennedy006Push your imagination—one thing at a time!
Doodle.ChangeOne.LKennedy007Can you imagine a quilt with one of your doodles?

This tree is screaming to me to quilt:

Start with any simple shape.

Use one of the Free Motion Quilt Tutorials as a prompt…

like the Anchor from this week.

I’d love to hear how this works for YOU!Doodle Lessons, Lori KennedyHappy Doodling and Happy Quilting!

PS.. The background quilt is an example of a Diagonal Composition (see Craftsy video).  It was stitched on my BERNINA 770QE with Aurifil cotton in the bobbin and Sulky rayon 40wt on top.

  1. Ahhh, just the type of nudge I needed. I would not have thought to change one thing, until it pushes my doodling to the top. Thank you! What a great teacher! Thank you for the discount on your Craftsy class. I purchased it but haven’t had time to watch it yet. I know I’m going to LOVE it.

  2. OK did my homework and posted a review and a project on Craftsy for you! It’s the least I could do after the months of enjoyment I’ve secretly enjoyed here at the Inbox Jaunt! Best wishes from a fan on Cape Cod. <3

  3. Thanks a lot Lori! I sat down for 15 minutes after work and decided to ” preview ” your class and now I’ve been here so long it’s too late for yard work! You really are an enabler for all of us procrastinators out here!
Seriously, I’m really enjoying both your class and your blog. The class is a great companion to your blog. And 50% off was an unexpected gift. Thanks!

  4. So I’ve doodled mindlessly my entire life…during lit and history class in school (oops!) and mostly while on the phone or just sitting as an adult. But I have to be careful now as I’ll get so into doodling my fmq designs and my creative side takes over I’ll forget to listen or talk to however called me….OOPS again! LOL!
