  1. Rosemary B here: I am hoping she is sewing something sweet and not mending undies.
This looks really sweet. Love the setting and the reflections

  2. When you think that years ago all sewing was done by hand, under very poor lighting conditions, you wonder how it all got done!

  3. Very beautiful painting, so peaceful…

Here is the link to the part of the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow which is dedicated to the theme of crafts.

    Paintings devoted to needlework

The idea to get acquainted with the works of Russian artists, which reflect the theme of crafts, I had when passing through the halls of the State Tretyakov Gallery, my attention was caught by a pair of genre portraits, famous masterpieces VATropinin “The Lacemaker” and “Zolotoshveyka.” I managed to collect here a few reproductions of paintings by Russian artists, in which characters are depicted in handmade work. No need to give a description and any assessment of these works, just to give examples of these works, the originals of which, of course, possible, necessary and worth viewing in museums, exhibitions and so on., Once again to make sure that the needlework – predominantly female occupation. From antiquity originates needlework creativity in its various manifestations, from the lace bobbins to cutwork embroidery. At all times, women from different countries, ages and classes engaged in needlework. Needlework – not just a pastime, it’s a painstaking and hard work that is embedded in every work and needlework that requires taste, skill and patience. No wonder handmade always highly valued. Nowadays needlework experiencing a period of prosperity, which is often called the second birth. Craft is not only beautiful, but also fashionable! A women’s needlework work – it is also one of the important components of happiness to be a woman.

  4. I think this is one of the most beautiful paintings you have shown us. It would be wonderful to be able to sit and sew in the peace of this lake.
