Tuesday Tutorial-Woven Cross-Hatch

Woven Cross Hatch Tutorial

Today we are going to try a very easy filler…the Woven Cross-Hatch.  This may have another name, if anyone knows it, please chime in…

I started with The Stencil Company’s Geranium Stencil (read more here and here)…but you could draw your own grid.  This grid space is 3/4 inch in this small quilt.

Start in one corner, weaving in and out.  Try to cross the drawn intersections with your stitching lines.

Once you get to the end of the line, weave back on the same drawn line, but in the opposite direction, creating an “eye” shape.  Then take a few straight stitches to get to the next drawn line.

Repeat as above on the next drawn line.

In no time at all, you will have a little rhythm going…As you can see mine are not perfect…

Once you get to the corner, you will start in the perpendicular direction…This is when it gets really fun because now you can see the pattern…

Just continue around the square…

And I am quite sure you will be thrilled with the outcome!

The Stencil Company has several grid templates (here)  I love the Geranium stencil because it is so versatile, but I also use the 10 x 10 inch Line Design stencil quite a bit.

Please check out all the tutorials in the Quilt Section above…

I have to get to my sewing machine now…I have a Shamrock Doodle Quilt dancing a jig in my brain…

The Problem with Poinsettias…

The problem with poinsettias is they last too long…

It doesn’t seem right to complain, but I can’t look at my red poinsettias any more.  They are so perfect in November, December, even January…

but by mid-February, I long for a colorful change of pace…

Something with a sunny countenance, like a primrose…

Any color–except red!

I love the galvanized buckets!

and you can’t go wrong with these lovely buds…

So if you need a little color in your life (and The Inbox Jaunt and Color Route Co aren’t sufficient)  head over to your nearest greenhouse for a little pick-me-up!

Tomorrow…we’ll have a colorful tutorial…don’t miss it!
